Build A Bike (3 of 8)

02/02/2012 - 7:00pm
02/02/2012 - 10:00pm

Gain a comprehensive overview of bicycle mechanics in this 8 week Build-A-Bike course. This class will cover it all, including bottom brackets, headsets, hubs, wheel truing, brakes, shifters and derailleurs as well as finishing work and trouble shooting.

In week 3 we cover Headsets. We will overhaul the headset on project bikes including removal of the stem and handlebars, disassembly and cleaning of the headset, repacking bearings and grease, and the re-assembly and adjustment of the headset, stem and bars. This will include an overview of the parts worked on and the tools used for this procedure. Both Threaded and Threadless Headsets will be covered.

Participants are to arrange their own project bike, replacement parts and/or accessories. A complete bicycle is best suited for this class. West Town Bikes will provide basic supplies such as cables, housing, bearings, grease and other shop supplies. Contact Michael Young before the first class for questions about project bikes and advice on the best type bike for the class. Parts and accessories can be ordered and purchased through our sales shop, Ciclo Urbano. WTB will offer storage space for project bike, parts and supplies for Build-A-Bike participants only. Participants must take project bike and all other belongings from WTB at the end of the course.
