DIY Mechanics - Shifters/Derailleurs

Learn how to set limit adjusters, install cables and housing, adjust, fine tune and maintain the shifters and derailleurs on your bike! this class will show you how to do it for index or friction shifters/derailleurs. We will also discuss the importance of shifting to enhance your riding experience and lengthen the life of your bike's drivetrain.

Sorry, internal geared hubs such as Sturmey Archer 3-speed or Shimano Nexus 7-speed will not be covered in this class.

A suggested donation of $15 is recommended for participation in this class. Cables and housing are available for an additional fee.

A worn chain and cassette will greatly affect the performance of a bikes shifters and derailleurs. Stop by Open Shop at WTB or check with your local bike shop to see if your chain and cassette need to be replaced. If they need to be replaced pick them up while at your local bike shop before class and they can be installed as part of the workshop. West Town Bikes does not stock chains and cassettes for sale.
