Learn the basics of how to keep your bike running smoothly. This class will cover things like preventing flats, fix-a-flat, basic cable adjustments and more. The days content is driven by what the participants want to learn. Its an interactive learning bike fun extravaganza.

This class is a great introduction to West Town Bikes, our workshop and other opportunities here. If you've got a bike you want to build up or have questions about classes we offer, taking this class first is a good choice. Bring a bike to work on. No prior knowledge needed.

Gain a comprehensive overview of bicycle mechanics in this 8 week Build-A-Bike course. This class will cover it all, including bottom brackets, headsets, hubs, wheel truing, brakes, shifters and derailleurs as well as finishing work and trouble shooting.

In week 4 we cover Hubs. We will overhaul the front and rear hub of wheels including removal of the freewheel/cassette. This will include an overview of the parts worked on and the tools used for this procedure.

Participants learn how to lace spokes into a wheel, apply tension to spokes, and make a wheel round and true. Wheel building theory will also be discussed in class. We will be using the Gerd Schraner method of wheel building. 3 cross spoked wheels in either 32 or 36 hole rims and hubs will be built. Using this method makes a strong, reliable and servicable set of wheels.

Week 1 we will lace both front and rear wheels. Week 2 we will tension, round and true both wheels.

Gain a comprehensive overview of bicycle mechanics in this 8 week Build-A-Bike course. This class will cover it all, including bottom brackets, headsets, hubs, wheel truing, brakes, shifters and derailleurs as well as finishing work and trouble shooting.

In week 6 we cover Brakes. We will add new brake cables and housing to project bikes as well as brake pads (if needed). We will also service and adjust brakes including tensioning cables, adjusting brake pads (toe in) and balancing brake arms. This will include an overview of the parts worked on and the tools used for this procedure.

It's college night at West Town Bikes!

WTB is offering a special Bike Workshop for Chicago College students. Spring is nearly here so it's time to learn the basics of how to keep your bike running smoothly all season long! This workshop will cover basics as well as being an Open Shop night for you to tune on your bike. Thanks to Community Connection students at DePaul for organizing. This is a great way to learn about your bike and become familiar with West Town Bikes. Bring a bike to work on. No prior knowledge needed! First come first served.
