These classes will teach basic bicycle mechanics in a comfortable setting for women and trans. West Town Bikes has space for 8 people to work with a stand and a set of tools. It is recommended that participants bring their own bikes, but if that is not possible, we can arrange for a shop bike to be used in the class. In the first class, we will go over the parts of the bicycle, the tools used to do most bicycle repair, and we will learn to fix a flat tire. Then, we will go over brake adjustments, and replace brake cables and set up and adjust front and rear brakes. Mia Moore and Liam Lair Participants must contact instructor Mia Moore (ciclourbanochicago@gmail.com)to arrange enrollment in this class. Enrollment will be secured with payment. Suggested base donation for this class is $60 for the full three week course. Additional contributions are appreciated and go to help support community programs aoffered by WTB. Learn the basics of how to keep your bike running smoothly all Winter long! This workshop will cover basics such as fix-a-flat, basic cable adjustments and more. You'll also learn necessary maintenance for winter riding as well as ways to best equip you and your bike for the cold, dark and snow. This is a great way to learn about your bike and become familiar with West Town Bikes. Bring a bike to work on. No prior knowledge needed! The three week intensive course will give you an overview of successful youth program models including budgets, schedules and lesson plans. In addition to program logistics participants will gain hands-on experience teaching mechanics, bicycle safety drills and leading group rides. The $300 course fee includes teaching manual, 6 week curriculum, fifteen hours of instruction and opportunity to visit and observe current youth programs.
