Our 5th Annual Heels On Wheels was a wonderful success last Saturday night. Girls Bike Club made this fashion show come to life for another amazing year!
We were happy with the turn out of 75 folks as well as the great support from generous sponsors and amazing donors. All the outfits this year incorporated reflective fabric customized for each design, promoting safety and style. We also highlight the achievements of our exception members like Jennifer who is a 606/Bloomingdale Trail Ambassador and an Intern Mechanic at Ciclo Urbano, the West Town Bikes retail shop. She’s also graduating Jones College Prep this year and has already been accepted by a several local universities. Ulana, a Girls Bike Club veteran and Ciclo Urbano mechanic, is about to take up a full time-position as a industrial welder. She recently graduated Jane Adams Resource Academy.
The $2,600 raised will help our young women attend the National Youth Bike Summit later this autumn. They’ll be presenting on how to organize and grow a successful Girls Bike Club. Our young women remain a close-knit group. Even though they go on as adults to excel in their communities, they continue their commitment to our helping out the club when they can. They also appreciate the generosity of all those who helped make Heels on Wheels a success. But there’s still a lot of work to do like bike building, community building, and youth development!
